Week 1:
1. Bezier Game
- It is a game where you can experience various drawing using the pen tool, very similar to the pen tool used in Photoshop.
At first, there were easy drawings, but as you go further, there are many pen tool drawings that take a longer time and difficult to use it.
It will take a little more practice to become familiar with the pen tool, this was a useful game where people could practice Photoshop while playing the game.
2. Create my E-Portfolio Blog
The Link is: https://jeong1222.blogspot.com/
This is my first portfolio blog, and I am very excited because it is a blog that announces my new start, I will make this blog with a new mind.
3. Create my Pinterest and Behance
The Link is: https://www.pinterest.co.kr/ssunflowerr1222/_saved/
Pinterest and Behance are great site to see and share the creations of various people. You can upload your own pieces, and you can learn and watch other people's creations. It's an inspiring site where you can bring in great ideas.
LECTURE
Week 2 : Introduction to Basic Composition
1. Focal points
This helps the viewer's eyes to settle on the important pieces of the design.
2. Scale & Hierarchy
The scale is used to help communicate hierarchy by drawing attention towards and away from certain elements.
3. Balance
Each element has a 'weight' to it (the depth and space).
4. White Space
Mostly known as "empty space" to balance up the main focus of composition. It also helps your design to 'breathe.'
Rule of thirds
The rule of thirds is the process of dividing an image into three parts using two horizontal lines and two vertical lines. This imaginary grid produces nine parts with four intersections. Placing the most important elements of the image at these intersections creates a much more natural image.
Using rule of thirds to:
Uses a construction technique that matches what looks natural to the eye. Make creative use of the negative space. Create a dialogue between the theme and the background.
Golden Ratio
The golden ratio is a mathematical ratio. It is commonly seen in nature, so when used in design it nourishes an organic and natural composition that pleases the viewers. The golden ratio has been used by artists to locate aesthetically pleasing areas to place our subjects and distribute weight in our paintings. Another option is to segment your painting into nine unequal sections using the golden ratio.

4. Exercise / Week 1
List 3 design work from Pinterest
1#
The reason I chose this work in the first place is because I actually love collages very much. I always think that small stuffs come together to create a one work is really interesting. Also, I prefer retro and old design, and this piece just expressed that. This work, like a man in a car, alone on the road, looking at strange landscapes on the mountain and scenes that might be his imagination, came into my heart.
2#
As I said above, this work which I chose for the second time, reflects my taste. I love retro art from 70's to 90's, and especially like this style of posters and illustrations. I really liked the texture and technique of the colors which this artist used. In my opinion, this work is an advertisement poster, of course, in the past, cameras were not very developed, so people would have made a poster with pictures. That's why it's very impressive to use paints to make a poster.
3#
Last one, this is very simple poster, made with only text, background and one color, and I think its really impressive that artist can make such a strong design with only those little things. That word means, "I will keep your memory." It seems that the small lights and the blurring letters are expressing this sentence at once.
Feedback
Today's class is my first class, it announced my new future, and it was a very informative and joyful class. Everything I learned in class was really new and motivated. In this class, we talked a lot about what we will learn in the future, what kind of project we will make, and what kind of results will be achieved. I hope to learn more in the upcoming classes, I will try my best to grow even more.
Week 2&3: Physical Collage / Digital Collage
Physical Collage:
The material used for this project is printed paper, I also wanted to actively utilize a magazine or newspaper, but I couldn't find it around me.
The topics of my physical collage were 'orange' and 'old fashion'. First of all, I generally like yellow-based colors, along with a bit of retro style.
Final Outcome:
Digital Collage:
We can use 15 digital files as material, and we can create a digital collage using only these elements. With these materials I need to create a collage of three different designs.
After selecting the downloaded files, I used the 'Magic Wand Tool' to select the part I want to delete. And I placed it on an A4 canvas. At first, I thought that I had to decide on various compositions, so I tried various arrangements.
Final Outcome:
Week 4: Adjustment layers and filters
For our practical class activity this week, we are tasked to choose the best composition out of the 3 compositions we did for our digital collage and edit it using adjustment layers and filter in Photoshop.
When doing this work, I wanted to express a fishbowl with fish. So I tried to express it because the object seen through the glass looks blurry, and the broken filter was laid out and overlaid to make the filter reminiscent of a fragment of broken glass.
Final Outcome:
Week 5: Digital imaging: Shazam in Hearst Mansion
This week's tutorials and exercises show you how to digitally insert a photo (subject) and make the inserted subject realistic with the background. He attached us two pictures. You should practice using only this. The first is a poster by Shazam and the other is an interior photo of the Hearst Mansion.
First I selected the shazam using the quick selection tool, and masked the selection to remove the background.
Then drag and drop Shazam onto the Hearst Mansion photo and resize and reposition it to create a realistic sense of scale. The color matching feature is used to match Shazam's color to the background. Use various brightness control functions and contrast to make it look a little more three-dimensional.
Final Outcome:
Week 6: Recoloring black and white: Part 1
In this week's class, you'll get a video demonstration of how to recolor a black and white image in Photoshop. Should try the exercises using the photos provided.
The first step is to pick a color and use the brush tool to place the color over the entire skin. Then you can use overlay or soft light blending mode on the color layer.
Edit the saturation of the color layer to adjust the skin tone to a more matching tone. The same steps are repeated to color the lips, hair, eyes and coat. You can use opacity to make it more natural.
After that, a new layer is created with the background color filled. Use the lasso tool to select the remaining parts, so that the background is colored in the same way as the face. Then make the adjustments more natural.
Final Outcome:
Week 7: Recoloring black and white: Part 2
For this week's exercise, I will learned to color using a different technique than before. We should get a video demonstration of our work and practice to paint a given black and white photo in different ways.
You should use these photos as a base on skin, hair, and background to color and have to coloring them.
The first thing to be painted is the hair. Use the quick selection tool to make a basic selection for the hair and create a mask. Click on the "Select and Mask" option to select a mask.
Next, apply the hair mask to the solid layer and recolor the hair by changing the Blending Mode to Soft Light. Repeat the same steps for the skin, eyes, lips, earrings and coat.
I use the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to make some skin tone adjustments. Lower the opacity of the hair color to make it not too dark. Overall makes it more natural.
Week 10: After Effects Animation Exercise
For this week's exercise, we need to animate a given Photoshop file composition using Adobe After Effects. The animation should be 15 seconds long and the layer should be animated using position, size, and masking path keyframes.
We need to create an animation using the composition given to us.
Notes:
1. Import the W9_ANIMATE.psd into Adobe After Effects.
2. Create a composition setting 1080 px (Width) x 1920 px (Height)
3. Duration 15 second. Create a keyframe animation to the layers using Position (P)
4. Scale (S) & Masking path. Render output: Quicktime (H.264)
The layers available in the Photoshop file are the typewriter, the shark, the fencer, the projector and the background. practiced this animation using position, size, and masking path keyframes.
Final Outcome:
PDF File With Mov
PDF File With Avi
Reflection
- These exercises I've learned so far have allowed me to test my understanding before starting the project. This helped me a lot in carrying out my exams, and they helped me understand and learn more Photoshop. These exercises were a small version of what I was going to do. All these exercises made my project easier to understand and I used these skills, so I think my project came out better. Some of these exercises were hard exercises, but it was really fun to learn one by one, and I got used to it. These are the skills I should have.
