Project 1A / Physical Collage

Design Materials

- The material used for this project is printed paper, I also wanted to actively utilize a magazine or newspaper, but I couldn't find it around me.

Pre-composition

- I first learned collage in this class. It was very interesting to use different angles and placements to make a collage, and I felt that the monotonous photos were enriched.

- The topics of my physical collage were 'orange' and 'old fashion'. First of all, I generally like yellow-based colors, along with a bit of retro style.

- Directly cutting and pasting magazines, newspapers, and prints was a very time consuming task overall. However, because it took a lot of labor, I was able to do a better job, and it was a very useful class because I was able to learn about angles, composition, and how to complete a collage.

Project 1B / Digital Collage

- We can use 15 digital files as material, and we can create a digital collage using only these elements. With these materials I need to create a collage of three different designs.

- After selecting the downloaded files, I used the 'Magic Wand Tool' to select the part I want to delete. And I placed it on an A4 canvas. At first, I thought that I had to decide on various compositions, so I tried various arrangements.

Final Outcome

Fig 2.6 / Final Outcome

-  I started working on that photo after thinking it was a big fish tank. A very old, faded and broken fish tank. To express that, I had to apply a blur filter to the fish, and a paint filter to give the buildings a softer feeling. Also, a yellow-based noise filter was applied to give an old-fashioned overall look.

- I try to use more different types of shapes that are related to my collage, so I can practice more with the pen tool, and my college can look plentiful, not boring.

Feedback

Week 3: Mr. Martin asked me to try different ideas, and he said there was nothing wrong with my ideas. Mr. Martin told me to keep researching and learn more about Photoshop. He explained exactly and kindly what I had to do, so I was able to learn a lot without difficulty.

Week 4: Mr. Martin saw my first design and said it was a new type of digital collage. He said that the first design out of my three designs is the most intense and new type, but the design needs to be supplemented in a little more detail. Thus I finished the final by adding a little more details and materials to the first design.

Reflection

Experience: To be honest, this project was the most interesting and fun project of the modules I've done so far. Learning editing skills for photos and make collages using Photoshop was very useful and good learning for me.

Observations: I found collage to be a very abstract art. I learned that every feel can be different depending on how I transform and make it. All designs are subject to change depending on how I observe them. In this sense, collage design was a very attractive work.

Findings: It made me realize once again that collage is a very interesting and harmonious art. Especially when I change the look of a photo the way I want it with Photoshop, I can feel that I am learning real art. As I practiced this collage, I noticed that my Photoshop skills improved a lot.
