INSTRUCTIONS

Task 2A: Key Artwork

For this work, we need to design the main artwork that will act as a logo and artwork. We must use our name/initial/nickname. All of these tasks are also used in task 2B.

Ideation:

- Ideas I searched for based on the style and identity of the design I wanted. If I design a logo with my own name, I wanted something that could simply express myself. I've been wanting to have my logo for a long time, and I'm glad that I had the opportunity to work on it like this. I focused on 'simple' and 'line'. The thickness of the lines harmonizes beautifully, and I thought that it could be expressed in a simple yet powerful way.

Sketches:

- First, I sketched out various versions of the logo in the style I wanted. First of all, I will explain briefly what style I want. I want to complete a simple picture-like logo through the simplest alphabet that I can express. The 'LOVA' I use is my English name. There were many logos (pictures) that could express this simple four-letter alphabet. It could represent the shape of a musical note, or it could represent the sun floating on the ground. After doing various sketches, I saw that the logo was getting better and better. When I got feedback, he said the first logo on the second page and the two logos on the last row were very interesting. So I decided to choose my logo out of these three.

Digitalization:

- I wanted to check the basic frame before deciding on my logo, so I digitized it with a single line. After digitizing like this, I was clearly picked one logo.

- After digitization, this logo was my favorite. But I decided to make a little more detailed change here. Because this gave it a bit of a blank feel, I went ahead and changed the logo by re-sketching.

- This is the last logo I re-sketched and worked on. I liked this very much. However, in order to give the feeling of the lines I wanted, I had to move the thickness of the lines harmoniously.

- This is the logo that adjusted the thickness of the completed line. I set the thickness so that there is no overlapping part, and I thought this was softer and more comfortable to look at.

- I explained how this logo expresses 'LOVA'.

Final Key Artwork PDF:

Task 2B: Collateral

We are tasked to design the following with our key artwork in Task 2A:

Poster (A3) (1 artwork, 1 simulation) (JPG & PDF)

Animated Gif invite (800/1024 px)

1 collateral (your choice - simulate) (JPG & PDF)

1. Poster

- Since my key artwork acts as an artist's identity, I decided that my event should be an art exhibition, with the theme being 'Galaxy'. First off, it's my favorite genre of art, and I thought the vastness and dizzying of the universe would blend into my simple style logo.

- But I haven't decided on a lot of information yet, and from what I can see, this work is too simple and not very interesting. And exactly when I got the feedback, I heard the same story. Too little information, a title that doesn't fit well, and a design that's too easy. I had to fix all of this.

- To do that, I first searched for posters that fit my style.

- Looking through several posters, I could clearly see what was wrong with my poster. First, the layout is too simple, the title doesn't fit, and the background and fonts are too simple. I decided to reconsider this and fix it.

- To do that, I had to set up the information first.

Info:

- Art Exhibition About Galaxy

- Event Horizon: In the general theory of relativity, it is a boundary where events occurring within it cannot affect its exterior. What I wanted to express was to appreciate all the works in this art exhibition and to feel like we were in space. And after viewing this work, returning to reality (earth).

- lova1222@gmail.com

- After setting all the information, I sketched out the layout and ideas.

- Of these, I liked the third sketch idea the most, and decided to use it to make a poster again.

- This is my finished poster. First, I selected a font that fits my image, and designed it with a central layout. The color was selected by combining the yellow/black color series. First of all, since this is a poster about the space art exhibition, I chose the first moon that comes to mind when I think of space, and the moon is slightly yellow. So, my logo was laid out on top of the moon and rearranged, and the background was designed as if the moon was in the background using star textures and neon to give the feeling of galaxy.

2. Animated invite

- To create the animation (gif) I used the frame by frame method. This is how I take the frames I made separately from Illustrator and put them in After Effects.

- In my animation, I first drew a line that looked like an L and wrote the first information on it. After that, write the following information on the model that seems to draw O, and repeat this with 'LOVA'. Then, as I said above, I wanted to emphasize my lines, so I completed an animation that felt like the lines were drawn slowly. And at the end I end up putting other information next to my key artwork logo.

3. Collaterals

Collateral 1 / Banner

- I finished a new version of the design to make the banner. This is similar to the poster design, but it is designed to fit the length and layout of the banner a little more.

Collateral 2 / Round Sign

- I prepared a small sign so that people can see the advertisement for this art exhibition at once while walking down the street.

FEEDBACK

Week 7

General feedback: I need to fine-tune how I create my ideas. I did a lot of research, and I try to sketch a lot so that I can recall more ideas.

Specific feedback: Mr. Vinod said my early sketch ideas were very creative. He said that I could use this idea as it is, and he said that 2 out of my 10 ideas were the best.

Week 8

General feedback: Should do more research on poster design. I need to find a poster design with a style that fits my idea, and refer to poster designs of other artists.

Specific feedback: Mr. Vinod Said that my poster was too simple and did not know what to express. I'm not very imaginative, and a large logo is interfering with my poster.

Week 9

General feedback: The poster has been remade, and one collector has to be chosen. I liked both, so I chose two and tried them.

Specific feedback: I liked the two collectors I chose and the GIF file. It seemed to express exactly what I wanted to express.

REFLECTION

Experience

- This was time consuming and difficult, but very enjoyable. It was difficult to come up with the idea to create my artwork, but I was very proud. After that, the collectors who made them were also very enjoyable work. Because it was a job to express my identity, I was able to work even harder and focused on this.

Observations

- Through this work, I learned the relationship between alphabets. By observing this, I found that I could create more than just plain text. I was also able to learn the visual harmony of letters and colors, and also learned how colors act on letters.

Findings

- Through this project, I once again realized how important typography is to design. The basics are the most important. I didn't really think much about typography, but through this project, I learned how the most basic typography has a big impact on design. If the typography changes even a little (direction, size, color, model), the feel of the design will change drastically.
