REFLECTION
Experiences:
- From August 27, 2021, when I started this class, to the last class, November 26, 2021, for 14 weeks, I learned many lessons and learned knowledge. When I first started the school year, I was like a baby who knew nothing. In particular, because I have no experience of typography, everything seemed dizzy and difficult. And it seems to have been a more difficult journey because of the overflowing assignments in all the classes. But the classes and projects I've been working on so far have inspired me a lot, and it's been very rewarding. Thank you very much to this module for letting me know all this.
From the very beginning, I made a lot of mistakes, and at first my self-esteem was very low. But the more I learned typography, the more I found it very attractive. Making my own fonts, using them to make posters, and making my own animated stickers seemed to get me more and more familiar with typography. It took a lot of time and effort, and a mixture of thoughts and emotions, and it was a very valuable experience. In fact, typography is one of the basics of design. As I was learning other lessons, I thought about how practical and necessary everything I learned in this module was. I was very happy to be able to experience this here and learn from it. Sometimes I am tired, afraid, I want to quit everything, but it's just a feeling that humans always feel. I am grateful for this module because even as I feel these negative emotions, I have more feelings of pride, joy, and worthwhile thoughts.
Observations:
- I've always thought that typography is all about being pretty and cool. I don't know what kind of anguish and thoughts went into it. But during these 14 weeks of class, I knew I was wrong. Of the basics, the basics are the most difficult. Typography is not just about being pretty. I learned that typography is what is created when so many things are integrated, such as symmetry, characteristics, details, and letter changes in it. I learned how important typography is, which is naturally incorporated into everyday life. For example, when I saw a certain poster or advertisement, when I saw the typography that came out of it, I thought, 'Oh, it would have been better if there was a typography like this.' I thought. All of this seemed to be the result of the class.
Findings:
- I had no experience with typography, so I assumed this was a very simple task. But in the end this was not true. Typography has a long history, it is so sophisticated and detailed that it requires the use of anatomy, and I have discovered how much effort it takes to complete even the fonts we use on a daily basis. I realized how many details had to be used to harmonize it, and how many things had to be used in a set frame. Typography was like training. It is like typography to be completed based on patience and perseverance. What I felt while taking this class is that typography is an art. An art that must be observed in great detail.
Thanks to Mr. Vinod and Mr. Charles for viewing, feeling, giving feedback and helping me get up on my arduous journey!
